Vintage Flea Market in Nizza Monferrato
Every Sunday, for the past thirty-six years, the square of Nizza Monferrato fills with stalls and stories. At eight in the morning the Mercatino dell'Antiquariato Nicese opens its doors. If you are a guest of VERENZA during the third Sunday, we would recommend going, as it is one of the most charming things to do on a Sunday.
Where the past becomes tangible
Walk between the stalls and you move through layers of Piedmont itself: porcelain and glassware, paintings and old decor, wine barrels once used in the cellars of the Langhe, wooden crates, vintage Vespas, jewellery passed down through hands we will never know. Nothing here was made to impress. Everything was made to last, and that, perhaps, is its quiet charm.
There is something for everyone.
Start slow
Our tip: arrive around eight and stop first at Bar Sociale. Order a coffee, a cornetto pistacchio, and take a seat with a view over the market before you throw yourself in it. A small ritual of ours before the real wandering begins.
Give yourself time. With so many stalls to explore, three hours pass easily, and that is exactly how it should be.
If mornings are not your rhythm, there is no reason to worry: the market stays open until six in the evening, ready for slower starts and unhurried afternoons.
I bought a Madonna that fits perfectly in the niche in our living room.
Some visitors come for a single find. Others come for the walk itself. Either way, you leave with more than you arrived with.
